Duke Kahanamokua, 1890 to 1968, was a native Hawaiian and a five-time Olympic swimming medalist. He popularized the ancient Hawaiian sport of surfing, and is known as the father of modern surfing.

Mauna Loa (Long Mountain) is one of five volcanoes that form the island of Hawaii. It is the largest active volcano on earth, and has probably been erupting for at least 700,000 years.

King Kamehameha Day is a state holiday in Hawaii that honors King Kamehameha I — a fearless warrior, wise diplomat and a highly-respected leader. Known as Kamehameha the Great, he is credited with uniting the Hawaiian Islands into one royal kingdom in 1810, after years of strife and conflict.

American Guerrilla in the Philippines was a 1950 film starring Tyrone Power as a US Navy ensign stranded by the Japanese occupation of the Philippines in World War II. Based on the 1945 book of the same name by Ira Wolfert, it was directed by Fritz Lang and filmed on location.
